Studio Index support

Help with the next private testing edition: workspaces, recent files and a view of your Mac.

We aim to reply within three business days.

What to include

  • Your device model and system version.
  • The Studio Index version and your macOS version. Check screenshots for private project names and file names before sharing them.
  • What you were trying to do, what you expected, and what happened.

Please leave out passwords, access keys, and private records about other people. If we need a file, we’ll suggest a safe way to share it.

Common questions

How do I start a workspace?

Choose Writing, Publishing or Software, then Start my workspace. Each begins with a sample project and pending tasks. Rename the project, add your own projects and tasks, and check off tasks as you finish. Select a completed task again to reopen it. Changes are saved for the next time you open Studio Index.

Can I change workspaces?

Open Settings and select Change workspace. Your projects and tasks stay saved in each workspace. Return to Writing, Publishing or Software to carry on where you left off.

How do I connect existing project folders?

Choose Custom folders. If you already have connections, Use connected folders reuses them. Choose other folders opens the folder chooser. Cancelling leaves your current workspace in place. Connected files are read-only; adding a folder does not change its contents.

Where are the optional status files?

Open Advanced connections in Settings to connect project status, checklist or usage files you already keep. The File connection guide has examples. Connecting one switches to Custom folders; your other saved workspaces remain available. The Usage panel reads its selected file and does not sign in to a service.

How does Recent work find my files?

Select Connect Documents, Connect Downloads or Add folder, then confirm the folder in the chooser. The list updates as files change there. Select a file to show it in Finder. Up to 12 files appear, from a search limited to three levels deep and 2,000 files and folders per connected folder. Hidden items and the contents of apps and other bundled folders are skipped. It is not a complete search of your Mac.

How do I remove a Recent work folder?

Select the remove button beside its name. This stops following the folder and leaves its files in place. If a folder is unavailable, connect its drive or choose the folder again when it is ready.

What does Your Mac show?

Open apps lists ordinary running apps, with the active app first. Select one to bring it forward. CPU shows average activity since the previous check. Memory estimates how much of the installed memory is in use, excluding reusable cache. It is not a memory-pressure reading. Readings refresh every 30 seconds while the overview is open. The app list does not include every menu-bar utility. GPU readings are unavailable in this version.

How does Keep awake work?

Keep awake starts Off. Choose 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or Until I turn it off. It keeps the Mac and display awake even if you close the overview. It ends when the time runs out, you choose Off, or you quit Studio Index. The next launch starts Off again.

How do I bring back the overview or panels?

Choose Open Studio Index from its menu-bar menu, or open the app again to bring back the overview. Expand Desktop panels to show an individual panel or use Show all. Settings includes text size, floating panels and an optional Open at login switch.

Can I use the panels from the keyboard?

Control-Option-Command-I moves focus to the panels from anywhere. Tab moves through rows and Space opens an item.

Does it connect to the internet?

An App Store Connect key is optional. If you add your own key, Studio Index connects to Apple to check your apps’ TestFlight status. The key stays in macOS Keychain; project contents are never sent. Remove the key to turn that connection off. Selecting a web link opens your browser.
